Hummingbird Art
I never posted this up on this blog, but I thought I'd share a piece that I illustrated for the National Geographic Magazine for an article about the endangered Juan Fernandez Firecrown Hummingbird. It appeared in the September 2007 issue...better late than never. Hope you enjoy!

Update!
So sorry for the long absence...I think it's due time for an update. So, recently I had done some contract work for a company called The Trail of Painted Ponies. (The company originated in Santa Fe, New Mexico as a public art project that invited over a hundred artists to transform life-size fiberglass sculptures into beautiful works of art...now it's a distinguished collectibles company.) I had the opportunity to complete three designs for them, one of which became part of an autographed series (Summer 2008) - Stagecoach Pony...the other two are part of their Holiday collection - Twas the Night Before Christmas and Wooden Toy Horse Pony. From concept to reviewing the last sculpts and samples of the figurine, I had a great time working on these and I look forward to working with this company again in the future. More Speedpaints

Keeper of Myth
Some work I did for the Keeper of Myth Project for class...I really enjoyed this project. We were to design a trainer with a significant prop, and a mythological creature, trying to make the trainer's design or attire specific to the creature that he/she is training. I ended up using the two character designs at the top for the trainer and the mythological creature, the Menehune (from Polynesian mythology). The trainer's attire is reminiscent of Paupeuo the owl god, who is feared by the Menehune...attached around her ankles are bunches of bananas, the Menehune's favorite food - she uses them to award and tempt the nocturnal, hill dwelling creatures. She uses her prop, an ancient instrument, to call for them in hopes that she can train the creatures to protect her village. Lastly, some ideations. Currently working out a piece to show the two characters' relationship to each other. That's all for now. Enjoy!
